Sammy Miller Triumph Cub

Went for a spin after the rebuild and popped into the Sammy Miller Museum near New Milton [5 miles from my house] and spotted this nice little Triumph Cub for sale. On the trip the Scram sprung a small oil leek [Gives the bike that authentic classic triumph feel] which was easily fixed by tightening up a bolt on the cooler. Only £3995
Thinking of oil leaks is that one under the Triumph Cub!

Running

Bike is now running again - not finished but at least I can enjoy the sunshine we are having at the moment. Its so good to be on two wheels again!

By Any Means II

Charlie Boormana at the the launch of 'By Any Means 2' on a Deus Ex Machina W650 Street Tracker

Good choice Mr Boorman, not as bigger twat as I had thought!

£43.....

The offending coil terminal

Noticed that one of my HT leads was broken last night. Phoned up Triumph spares this morning to get a replacement, and was quoted £43+ vat each! Are they taking the piss! £43 for one lead!  I could get two custom made chrome plated high performance leads shipped from the states by Virgins for less! than £43 + vat each!!!

Running out of things to do

Cant do anything now until the weekend.

No idea when I will get the tank painted, and all the other small bits done, next month I hope, work, ice caps melting and swine flu permitting. Being on a four day week is slowing things down, so maybe this might be the way its stays for a while....

 looks the bollock's IMO

So thats where it goes!

After putting the bike back together I had a connector left over, I know what this connector does, but I couldn't remember where it went. I looked in the Haynes Manual and there it was! The manual shows in details what the plug looked like, but absolutely no information to where on the engine it plugs in.

A trip to 3x Triumph in Ferndown resolved the problem in a matter of seconds....

At least I know for next time!

Thinking of 3x Triumph, ordered a few bits for the bike which should turn up before the weekend. With any luck the bike should be running again by Saturday. Then all I have to do is get the tank painted, [might paint it matt black until it's painted the blue and white] fab up a number board/light mount for the front, make a fender eliminator [mudguard] and light/number plate bracket from a bit of alloy, chop 4 inches off  the frame, have a seat made by Saxon Seats to match the Romero bike and finally get those Zard 2-1 pipes and paint them black.

Easy then, or did I forget something?

Photoshop shortened Scram

Black Headers

Painted the headers black, and will wrap that centre section in 2" heat wrap.

Now I know the high pipes don't stay in keeping with the Inspiration bike, but at this stage I cant exactly afford new pipes. When I do get those sexy Zard 2-1 low pipes....

...the bike will be losing 4" off the rear.  The current headers make the bike look far too long when the D&D Slip-on are fitted.

Don't like the current bars on the bike either!

Bars

Finding Flat Track bars that fit my Scrambler and within the budget of  mere mortals is proving interesting.  Its not actualy the Bars that are the problem, any Quality 7/8 Flat Track bars will do, its just the £125 that I would need to pay to replace all the cables, and the idea of spending £125 on something that I already have doesn't go down well.

I have been trolling the Triumphrat forums and its seems theses Flanders TT bars will fit without new cables. But will they look as sexy as the Bars currently pictured on the bike? [Norman Hyde Western bars]

Oh...and I can only get them from the US!

Bobbed Scrambler

Taking it a little bit further.
Found this on the RAT forum, now this really is nice work.

MmmmMM would it fit!

Been looking at these, question is could I make it fit.
Like this...

What a busy, hectic and shit day - On the way home from work last night my car decided it had enough and started to sound like a diesel, next thing I know RED LIGHT  - OVERHEATING!!!!! It seems I'm not getting any oil to the cam!, Yikes!! So that will need looking at. (the details of which I wont bore anybody that read my blog with)

In the meantime the frame came back from the painters, so in between stripping down the car I started putting the bike back together. Everything I put back on was torqued-up except the swingarm [need new bearing] the rest went back on really quickly, maybe a little to quickly so I will go over everything again with the torques rench to be extra safe.
Putting the loom back in wasn't as bad as taking it out
Looks like a bike!
OMG....it MOVES!!!!
Started to rain at this point so I needed to get the bike moving again! - I need a workshop!!
How sexy is that!Tank and seat back on just to take a few pics - Tank will be painted in a few weeks due to the car spending my money!

Forks

Managed to get the forks looking the way I wanted this afternoon. Not going for the Polished bling look, rather a slightly dull finish. Makes it more work bike than show bike.

The Cross brace/mudguard bracket well get the powder coat treatment at a later date.

Oil Cooler Bling

Would love a set of these oil coolers from Bonneville Performance. They look better than the stock items - A wee bit expensive at a £195 at the current exchange rate.
Something for the wish list.

Day 2: Strip Down Complete

Forks and Swingarm off - My state of the art workshop facility in the background
Had an accident when draining the oil. I feel my handling of the spill was akin to John Wayne in the film Red Adair
Engine out - Will need a bit of a clean, as does the driveway
The little plastic clips that hold the loom and cables on are a bugger to get off in one piece.
All ready for Gerry at the Painters.

Day 1: Strip Down Begins

The Strip-down begins -The petrol tank put back on to see what the bike looks like without a front light or gaitors. Now I need to find a really small front light. Love the way the bar and controls look without any switches.
Nice looking front end -  first time I can say that, never liked the front of the scramber.
Now thats a look!

Just the engine to drop out, subframe comes with it -  then forks and its will be off to the painters.
